Environment, Challenges and Opportunities

The Government attaches great importance to youth development. Over the years, we have organised, funded and co-ordinated various youth development programmes to encourage young people to broaden their horizons and to learn about and grasp the diversified development opportunities.
  • YDC Youth Ambassadors Programme
    Identify and groom a cadre of young talents who see themselves as future leaders in various fields, who are passionate to serve society, and who are willing to strive for the betterment of the country and Hong Kong.

    Foster youth’s interest in pursuing a career in innovation and technology, and help corporates nurture talents and drive the development of the local innovation and technology related industries.

  • Space Sharing Scheme for Youth
    Facilitate tripartite collaboration among the business sector, non-government organisations (NGOs) and the Government to provide co-working space or studios for young people.

    The Funding Scheme aims at enhancing Hong Kong young people's awareness and understanding of their home country, fostering exchange with the Mainland people and strengthening their sense of national identity.

  • Funding Scheme for Youth Adventure Training Activities
    Improve young people’s physical and mental well-being, foster their positive thinking and resilience, foster a sense of discipline and team spirit; and emphasise the importance of cultivating positive values and thinking of young people during their growth and development, to enable them to become a new generation with a sense of ownership and responsibility, and an aspiration and willingness to contribute to the development of the country and of Hong Kong.

Challenges faced by young people

  • Need to know more about the history of our country and strengthen their sense of national awareness
  • Need to understand the overall development trend of our country and possess global perspective
  • Perceive hurdles in upward mobility in society
  • Encounter stress in respect of education, employment, family and interpersonal relationships
  • Desire to have their voices heard and respected, and play a part as stakeholders in social development and masters of future
  • Proper attention and active support for different groups of young people

Despite the challenges, Hong Kong youths have a strong foundation - fluent in bi-literacy and tri-lingualism; have awareness in the rule of law; flexible and creative; and have a can-do spirit.
