Environment, Challenges and Opportunities
The Government attaches great importance to youth development. Over the years, we have organised, funded and co-ordinated various youth development programmes to encourage young people to broaden their horizons and to learn about and grasp the diversified development opportunities.
Challenges faced by young people
- Need to know more about the history of our country and strengthen their sense of national awareness
- Need to understand the overall development trend of our country and possess global perspective
- Perceive hurdles in upward mobility in society
- Encounter stress in respect of education, employment, family and interpersonal relationships
- Desire to have their voices heard and respected, and play a part as stakeholders in social development and masters of future
- Proper attention and active support for different groups of young people
Despite the challenges, Hong Kong youths have a strong foundation - fluent in bi-literacy and tri-lingualism; have awareness in the rule of law; flexible and creative; and have a can-do spirit.
